Guide to the New Zealand Education System
This guideline has been assembled by On Arrival New Zealand
Ltd. to provide you with useful insights into the New Zealand Education System
and we hope it will provide you with answers to your questions and give you
an understanding of our education system and the excellent service the New Zealand
Ministry of Education provides for students.
We’ll give you an overview of the School System
in New Zealand, covering the different types of schools, and the overall education
system, the different agencies involved in education, education for International
Students, and special needs groups.
We will also give you some helpful guidelines on how
to decide upon the “Right” school for your children and the enrolment
procedure. The New Zealand curriculum and National qualifications will also
be covered.
With few exceptions, all children in New Zealand must
attend school from their sixth birthday until their sixteenth birthday. On Arrival’s
Guideline to Education will explain this compulsory period of schooling, who
is responsible for providing education, the range of schooling options, what
students are taught and the arrangements available for particular needs children.
We will also provide information on practical matters that parents and caregivers
need to know about.
